Mathspolosion!

14 pupils from Y10 went to Life Centre in Newcastle for a MAT trip organised by the Further Maths Support Programme. The students did 4 activities of:

  • Card tricks

  • Combinatorics

  • Climate change

  • Complex Numbers.

Pupils learnt about how some magic tricks are devised, how to create different/similar pieces for board games design, do experiments to create carbon and how the carbon cycle works and some degree level maths involving Imaginary numbers and Modulus and how it links into real life jobs such as Air traffic control etc.

They also were able have a look round some of the Life centre. Students enjoyed their day and were amazed with some of the work that they had accomplished. Mrs Clarkson
